Berlin is off my bucket list

We rented a Toyota Yaris (hybrid) at the Amsterdam airport and proceeded to drive around Holland and Germany.  The first few hours we drove around the Dutch countryside not understanding the Garmin guy pronouncing those Dutch street names.  It was a hoot.  Don't know how we finally got to our hotel but by that time our ears were tuned in....

After resting for two days in a little village on the outskirts of Amsterdam where everyone rode a bicycle and where everyone thankfully spoke English, we started on our way to Berlin through the Emsland, where I was born and then on to Hannover.

Our hotel in Potsdam

Our hotel in Potsdam gave us a voucher for the streetcar in Potsdam and the trains all over Germany.  It was such a pleasure to be able to mix with the real people in the city and ride into downtown Potsdam on the first day.  Wonderful shops and cafe's plus all those castles.

But the best part was taking the train into the Berlin's main train station.  It was so amazing for me to actually be in Berlin where so much history occurred.  Berlin is a very spacious city, mainly because it has always had lots of green areas and wide boulevards.  We took a city tour where the guide spoke both English and German.  This helped us to really understand everything because what we couldn't hear the first time, we got the second time.

Just loved this city.....I'm so glad we got there now when the wall is all gone and the East is being revived.  Out guide's inside stories helped to really get the feel and history of the place.
