Why the Germans love the West.......

Ever heard of Karl May (pronounced My)?

"His name was KARL MAY. He never saw the American West. And yet his tales are the most breathtaking ever written of Good fighting Evil between the Missouri River and San Francisco. He created Winnetou - the noblest of all Red Indian warriors, and he would have been hailed jubilantly by Edgar Rice Burroughs ("The War Chief"; "Apache Devil"), had their paths ever crossed. The concept which Europeans - predominantly Germans, Austrians, Czechs, Dutch - have formed of American Indians, and their struggle and their doom is based on the colorful and compassionate writings of KARL MAY."

Today we learned about the http://www.apachespiritranch.com/  hidden away a few miles south of Tombstone on a gravel road.  It's owned by a German Corporation in Munich.  We were on our way to Bisbee but decided to take a detour which we had learned about in Big Nose Kate's in Tombstone from one of the locals.  The place did not disappoint.  We walked in around 10AM after the common dining room had finished serving breakfast.  The manager who is married to a native German showed us around the Resort and asked the kitchen to prepare us some food.  The whole place is modeled after a western town.  There are 17 suites so you can sleep in the Post Office, Jail, etc.  Beautiful suites with all the comforts.  There is also a pool, bar, stables and the whole cowboy experience available for the guests.  The Dragoons are visible all around.

Meals are taken together by all the guests which creates a feel of community and the manager told us that after a few weeks stay there are always lots of tears.  They have groups from Europe come and stay for a month at a time.

So on Wednesday mornings you can call and reserve a spot at Cowboy Coffee.  Steak and eggs and all the rest.  I'm thinking I know someone that will be a regular guest. ;-)
